It would appear that the Police are above the law. Recently while out driving, I came down a narrow road about 400 metres long with cars parked both sides, slap bang in the middle was a police car. The engine was running and the headlights were on main beam; it was left parked in the middle of the road. The driver could have parked 50 cm closer to the parked cars; this would have allowed me and the vehicle behind me to pass with care. He could have also parked 10 metres back in a gap; this would have left the road clear. When asked to move his vehicle he flatly refused, stating he was busy; he would move it in due course. If you or I did this we would be liable to prosecution on at least two counts; obstruction of the highway and leaving a vehicle unattended with the engine running. It may seem trivial for me to raise this issue; but there are some important points to consider. I may have been driving a rapid response ambulance car on the way to a heart attack victim; or a fire engine trying to get to a house fire with people trapped inside. Whenever we are doing anything we like to think it is important; but it is also extremely important that we keep our roads clear for emergency vehicles that are on an urgent mission. In this instance both I and the driver behind were forced to reverse 400 metres to get out of the road.
