The speed at which a number of motorists approach roundabouts is quite frightening. They seem to work on the hypothesis that the road is always clear; but unfortunately for them it is not. In the last few days I have been forced to brake hard on roundabouts; this was due to vehicles approaching from my left at speed; in most cases I was not certain they were going to stop in time. If we installed speed bumps; one vehicle length back from the roundabouts; approaching motorists would have to slow down. This would make it safer for all users and may even improve the flow rate; as motorists wouldn't be able to rush onto the roundabout. In general it makes sense to go back to our initial driving lessons and skills; driving a little more slowly and giving ourselves more braking time and distance.
