Not content with fuel prices at record highs, parking and parking fines going up; the government now wants to get every spare penny from us. New Speed Cameras that calculate driver's speeds over several miles are being introduced. Not only will they work out average speeds they can cope with lane changing as well. The net outcome will be lots of motorists losing their licence and extra revenue to the treasury. The A13 in East London from Canning Town to the Gorsebrook interchange has been selected for trials; 34 cameras are being tested on this stretch of road. They are also being tested in a 20mph residential zone in Camden; Scotland and Nottingham have pilot schemes. The Department of Transport claims that the introduction of the speed traps would be at the discretion of of Safety Camera Partnerships across the country. This is another attack on our freedoms; there should be an open and frank debate on speed limits and speeding; not some back door stealth encroachment. You have been warned.
