Following on from our earlier blog; if the government does introduce widespread speed cameras we can expect delays and gridlock to follow. Anyone who has travelled on the M25 by Heathrow Airport will know that every time they turn on the variable speed limits; the traffic grinds to a halt shortly afterwards. The ultimate aim of the government would appear to be reduction of the number of vehicles on the road; this being achieved by high fuel prices, high road taxes, congestion charges and congestion. If they achieve their aims the economy will suffer; due to delays in movement of passengers and goods; many businesses will become unprofitable. We need to have a planned road building programme that meets the demands of a 21st century economy.
