 Governments keep going on about 'Climate Change' and 'Global Warming' and wanting us to reduce our ‘Carbon Footprint’ and hence CO2 emissions. Street Signs and Advertising are Dangerous

 Why do we need so many street signs? Do you ever ask yourself this question? I know I do. Congestion Charging is Coming to Manchester

Congestion charging is coming to Manchester in 2013 according to the latest announcements. The government is spending £3 Billion of our money on improving public transport in Manchester in readiness for the introduction of congestion charging in 2013. Traffic Jams out of Nowhere

   Watching a programme on Channel 4 the other day; I was intrigued by a theory that explained phantom traffic jams. These are traffic jams without any real explanation of what caused them. How many times have you been held up on a motorway? Only to find when you get to the clear road that there was no accident or breakdown to cause the delay. The theory of what causes this phenomenon is this; traffic gets too close together and either a bad manoeuvre or sudden braking by cars at the front of the traffic causes following vehicles to brake. The effect is that cars further back have to brake more sharply; until eventualy they come to a complete stand still; which in turn causes more vehicles to brake and so on; the net effect is gridlock. It would appear the best way to avoid these phantom traffic jams is to leave more space or braking distance between you and the vehicle in front.
