No I'm not being stupid; one of the major causes of lack of concentration and drowsiness is poor hydration. We humans need to maintain hydration of our bodies to be able to work or operate effectively. Drinking fluids is vital, preferably water but any fluid will do; except alcohol. By maintaining our hydration levels we are able to work and concentrate longer; it makes sense when travelling any distance to plan for refreshment breaks. Stopping for 10 - 15 minutes every 90 minutes or so will help keep us fresh mentally, physically and lower stress levels. Next time you stop for the toilet; take on some fluids before getting back in your vehicle. Allowing extra time for any journey will help make the trip more relaxed and enjoyable. It is important to remember that drinking water and soft drinks while driving is not considered good practise; many drivers have found to their cost having been prosecuted for not being in control of their vehicle. Find somewhere safe to stop, either a service area or a lay by, this way you can refresh your body in a secure environment.
